This class is designed to expose students to the visual and performing arts of choral music. In this choir, students will learn advanced skills of singing and reading music. Students will sing advanced repertoire from various eras of musical history and from a variety of music styles: including gospel, musical theater, pop, and classical.

In Music Appreciation, students will recognize the development of music from a historical and cultural perspective. Students will study the fundamentals of music and discover basic music terminology, instrument families, tempo, rhythm, form and meter. Students will also be involved in various AVID assignments. 

All assignments are aligned with the South Carolina state standards. 

A student successfully completing this course should have a greater understanding of chorus/ music appreciation, show marked improvement in chorus/ music appreciation, and prove to be competent in specified state standards.  To pass chorus/ music appreciation, the student must successfully complete each assignment, regularly attend and participate in class and outside performances, and show development as a music professional. 

Choir students will exhibit proper concert behavior during all performances, in either their own choir or as an audience member. Students will be graded on their behavior. Concert etiquette is an integral part of choral music education.  Appropriate conduct in formal and informal concert settings is included in the South Department of Education Choral Standards for Visual and Performing Arts.
